    What Diesel? An early 03 has a 7.3 and an E40D/4R100 and a late 03 has a 6.0 and a Torqueshift trans.

I think it's a diesel thing. Our 06 does the same thing. A gas truck you can shift it like a stick shift!

    I had that in a 00 F350 diesel 7.3.

More noticeable when it was hot.

Drove it to the tranny shop. They called me back and said how the HE!! was that thing still driving. It had overheated and cooked at some point.

it usually when the truck has sat for a while or on a small hill you can go to drive then reverse and its fine

Is it just a delay while going from Park to Reverse, or Drive to Reverse? If so that is just the way they are designed from the factory. On another forum, with a Ford Trans Engineer he talked about Ford putting a 2-3 Second Delay on the 4R100 for the shifting. Mine does it as well and is certainly not "toast". Runs at 180*, shifts perfect, and is holding my 120HP tune just fine. :waving:

Can we assume you've checked the fluid level?

I am also assuming it started doing it recently and is not the delay that is normal in Furds.

Better get it into a tranny shop before winter.

Yea x2 on tranny shop. A delay can be a psi or a clutch or band issue it'll be only a matter if time till it won't go at all
