    have a 01 gmc duramax.

the tranny is stuck in 1st gear. when you shift it to 3rd the starter engages.
would that be the neutral switch? if so where is it located, in the tranny pan?

    its automatic. allison transmission.

the gear indicator light keeps blinking? when placed into a gear

NSBU switch is located on the drivers side of the trans, it has the shifter linkage going through it, a few bolts and a couple plugs you could switch it out easy enough, sounds like the switch is bad from the blinking indicator in the dash, the starter engaging is strange though???????

i took it to the dealer to get it checked out, here there was a recall on it.
sometimes the plugs will become coroded and they will deteriate the switch.

it works great now, of course it wasnt the $40 switch, it was the $190 switch
