boss light bulb replacement...

Well to start, i have the new style boss lights. on the inside of the lights there is a cup type deal that pops into place and covers the end of the bulb, reflecting light in the housing. This cup came loose and broke my bulb. i took the light out and got the cup glued back into position, and went to get some new bulbs. I couldnt find any EXACT replacements as they come with from boss, so i just got some 9006's since they were the right plug in and fit in the housing. NOW, my lights blow! they arent as bright as they were with the original bulbs! Is there a better replacement bulb i could use? Thanks in advance... Maybee B&B can help me?

Jason

Best thing to do would have been to have your dealer fix it as it would have been fixed under warranty since Boss is well aware of the bad batch of new style lights.

But regardless now since you fixed it yourself...

There isn't a "better" drop in replacement bulb to replace the HIR style bulbs. The HIR's can be tough to source local but they're around if you check the web...not terribly expensive either.

The HIR's are the best thing out there as far as incandescents go and a far cry from the run of the mill 9006 bulb as you've found out. HID would be the next upgrade from the HIR's.

You may also find the HIR style bulbs at your local Nissan dealer, since the bulb was originally developed for their vehicles.
Like B&B says, it is a BOSS warranty issue and will be replaced (reflector & bulb) by your dealer...

I too tried to find replacement bulbs with no luck at all for the hir3. I did try and replace my highbeam bulb with some noyka artic white - don't waste your money - I had to get out and make sure they were on cuz from in the cab I saw squat. I just switched back to the boss stock bulb. Came in to do a search for bulbs and found this thread.

yeah i have been repairing the new style lights left and right, our TSB on this issue includes putting a small self tapping screw in the bottom of the housing going into the light cover. this keeps it from moving around and it will not move after.

also yeah, the 9006's suck in these housings, i myself would go with HIDs.

Please be more specific on the location of this screw? HID's? I need a loan for those..10 nights out of the year... hard to justify that expense.

Bulb Shield
REGARDING: Bulb Shield on Smartlight2
We have received reports of the Bulb Shield (Figure 1) in our new Smartlight2 plow light becoming
dislodged from the reflector. To address this issue, a screw has been added to hold the Bulb Shield in
place (Figure 2). These have begun to ship out the week of Dec. 22nd.
To repair headlights in the field, the screw may be added as shown in Figure 2, if there is no damage to
the reflective surface. A warranty claim for this repair may be filed for 0.3 hrs per light.
If there is damage to the reflective area of the light it is necessary to replace the lens/reflector
(MSC11104 or MSC11103). The parts shipped out, will have the screw already in place. The failed
parts must be returned to Boss. This repair pays 0.2 hrs. per light.
The HIR2 low beam bulb may not be readily available in auto parts stores. A 9006 bulb may be
substituted if necessary and still comply with DOT regulations however the light output will be less
than with the HIR2.

they have a pic on the TSB we have, but it basicly just goes right under the little bulb cap thingy.

a loan for HIDs? howso? i've been running Ebay HIDs that cost all of $59.99 shipped for over a year with no issues.
