RE-skin or go poly

Trying to decide if I want to re-skin the metal moldboard or go with a poly one in the future.

I'm not a great welder and would have to find someone to weld me a new skin. What do you think is the way to go? I really really hate how the cheaper grade meyer plows rust out so fast.

if you can afford to buy the poly skin do it! it won't rust out and even if it cracks you can epoxy them shut and keep using it for years. the only downfall I see with a poly plow is that it is a touch heavier than a comparable steel plow. I have an older 7.5 poly on my 3/4 ton and it handles it just fine. also the snow rolls off better as well.

I priced out the steel and figured on about 6 hours to re skin with steel , re pin minor other welding .
I went the easy route , craigslist , found a blade that had a good moldboard with a bent aframe for 200 bucks , used all the best parts from 2 and rebuilt a blade . The steel alone was 175 plus bending and welding and time .

Didnt realize steel to re-skin was that freaking expensive.

Something eles I am looking into to buy me some more time.

I could patch up existing skin and put one of those poly skins on the moldboard. How do those things hold up being bolted on and sealed up? So far I can only find something like that on ebay .

A truck I bought last year had one of those thin poly skins on it , it heald up well till I used the blade to push a tractor trailer and it ripped the poly. Then I saw how many holes the blade had in it . It will buy you a season at least .

I just redid my blade. I paid $150 for a 4x8 sheet of steel then they cut it in half and rolled both pieces. I just had to weld it on. The hardest part was taking the old skin off.

Speaking of re-skinning, I have a poly 7.5 and the frame is a bit rusty and I was thinking about removing the poly, sandblasting the frame and having it powdercoated. My question is this: will the poly go back to its natural flat state or will it remain curled? I've heard that it goes flat and it's a pain to replace; which makes me question if it would even be worthwhile.
