Seriously do you guys get down to blacktop all the time or can you survive with a snow covet
I agree 100% I hate these kinds of storms, its more stress then fun. I have 3 lots down to black top but only one has survived the rest are very close but with high temps of 10 degrees and 20+ mph sustained winds salt was pretty much useless and kind of still is.

Just keep pushing and keep the main parts of the lots open so people can come and go. Then a final cleanup when it over. They don't cry here when these snow on the ground.

Several years ago, we had a storm where it dumped 24" in 6 hours. Thankfully it was overnight. We actually kept up pretty well because we were out as soon as it started. Feels good once you're all done with a storm like that!

Pete,

You guys were defiantly in the center of the band for quite a while. We spent the day Monday pulling one out and cleaning the pad outside the door. By the time you pulled another out 45 min to a hour later you had another 3-4" where it was clear.

Headed home out by Colt Station about 3 am and was chatting with a guy from Wattsburg and they only had 6-8" total. Go 5 miles down 89 towards North East the other direction and they had 30+ in on the deck.

I posted a You Tube video on Jerresservice of the end of the drive on Station road Tue morning. Finally got some visibility to plow.

BLACKTOP............That's what we see in Late March when it storms like this.

Everyone be safe and try to get some sleep before the next round.

Worst I ever saw was a couple years ago. Couldn't see anything. Drove past one of my accounts. Turned around, blew a hole through, went back home and slept for three hours. It was so bad Maine DOT had shut down. Took 45 minutes to drive the five miles home.

It's business as usual around here when it snows hard, we're all use too it,

We can have 12" gone by morning time, its when it keeps snowing is when it sucks, you get the feeling it's never gonna end

It is rewarding when the banks are higher than the loader

Lake effect snow usually is easy pushing but when it is coming down faster than oyu can keep up with it that sucks . about 15yrs ago there is a town on the tug hill east of lake ontario , montague ny that got something like 60" of LES in 24hrs .

luckily I dont have to deal with lake effect snow, but I remember being in similar snow conditions during a blizzard back in the winter of 04-05. I ended up taking the first run through my roommates accounts for him. He sent me out after maybe 3 hours and there was already a foot on the ground, I had to wade through drifts to find the entrances to the lot because they had just changed up the street design and moved the entrances. I was then pushing and it was blowing so hard that I couldnt even see the building behind me as I was backing up, I backed into a concrete pole 3' off the side of the building, luckily it was there! At the next stop I was pushing out of an exit onto a 6 lane divided road at about 3am, and I was almost taken out by a state tri axle pushing down the wrong side of the road because he couldnt see where he was going

That storm reminded me of one about ten years or do ago. I was out plowing and it got so bad I couldn't make it back to the shop. It was irritating cuz I was only a mile away. It was snowing so hard I could barely see the plow head gear.

Be thankful. Some guys around here have not even got to push any snow. Our largest snowfall this year was 1.1" with a total for the season at around 2". Not to mention there were only three pushes last season. Back to back bad seasons. Guys are hurting around here. I remember plowing a 21" blizzard and how stressful it was BUT I'd take that over the long term stress of chasing down other jobs to feed the family. Tonight we get freezing rain turning into rain for the next couple days. Then maybe a flurry on Wed. BAD BAD year. Selling out to cut losses is looking good.

Yea it does suck to have to sell out , but I've plowed more snow this year with my quad than loader . Deeper better quality no cars in the way awesome commute/ walk to the shop lol

I'm done after this year it's no fun anymore it just keeps me from doing what I'm good at, I originally did it to give me a break from carpentry, it sure didn't do that just driving in is treacherous enough but I think that's what wakes me up to plow the rest of the night lol
